Santa Fe valley lies in the shadow of the continental divide. In the montane forest of the divide and the adjacent caribbean slope, many specialties listed for eastern Chiriquí and Veraguas can be found, such as Barred hawk, White-tipped Sicklebill, Green Thorntail, Lanceolated Monklet, Snowcap hummingbird, Green-fronted Lancebill, Crimson-collared Tanager, Lattice-tailed Trogon, White-crowned Manakin, Striped Woodhaunter and Spangle-cheeked Tanager. Santa Fé surroundings and National Park areas offers bird enthusiasts unique opportunities to add new species to their existing list or just to enjoy these amazing creatures. Around 20% of the birds of Santa Fe NP are endemic to the highlands and restricted to mountainous habitats and the other 80% are those founds in the lowlands and mid elevations. Migratory birds also use the forests of the NP and surroundings for refuge. Santa Fé NP encompasses over 70, 000 ha. of protected areas and is home to endangered bird species such as the Great Curassow (Crax rubra), Black Guan (Chamaepetes unicolor), Bare-necked Umbrellabird (Cephalopteros glabricollis)
